Two days before the Premier League season commences, Deco has revealed his excitement at making his Blues debut.
The 30-year-old was Luiz Felipe Scolari's first signing as Chelsea manager, and has quickly settled into life at Stamford Bridge, with some superb displays in pre-season.
After four years at Barcelona, Deco has been impressed with everything around the club, not least the supporters, who he met for the first time at our Fan Day on Monday.
'The fans are very passionate for the club and the players, and I like that,' he began.
'I liked Fan Day and was surprised how many people were there, taking their holidays to see us! I think it is good because the Chelsea fans are so enthusiastic for the team and the coach and new players, it is good for us and we have to do our best in the games for them.'
That work begins on Sunday when we entertain Portsmouth in a lunchtime kick-off, and the midfielder is looking forward to pulling on the blue jersey for the first time in a competitive fixture.
'Yeah, I am excited because it will be a good experience,' the number 20 said. 'We have had many training sessions and pre-season games, which have been very good.
'I had a little problem last week but now I am okay. I want to start well at Chelsea, and make sure we win.'
If selected, Deco is likely to be in a midfield alongside Frank Lampard, who this week committed his long-term future to the club. That was an important move for both club and player, the Portuguese playmaker believes, and he anticipates a strong partnership developing between the pair.
